Kathryn Kennedy serves as the Band Director at Legend High School. Ms. Kennedy graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Music Education. While at CSU, she served as a drum major for the marching band for three years and completed an honors thesis on the history of the CSU Marching Band. She was awarded the "Outstanding Upper Division Music Education Student" in 2022. Ms. Kennedy is a staff member for the George N. Parks Drum Major Academy, where she works with other band directors from around the country to train high school drum majors.
Chelsea is honored to serve as the Color Guard Director at Legend High School. She brings over 15 years of experience in the field, including involvement with Drum Corps International, founding the color guard program at her college, and coaching. Her background in music includes playing the flute and participating in the drumline during college. Chelsea holds three college degrees, one of which includes a minor in dance. She is also certified as a Personal Trainer with specializations in stretching and flexibility, as well as certification in Kinesiology taping. When not engaging with her family and friends, Chelsea dedicates time to practicing for her upcoming ballroom dance competitions.
Dr. McKenna Blenk is currently the percussion specialist for Legend High School and a percussion instructor with Denver Percussion. She holds a DMA in Percussion Performance and Pedagogy with a secondary emphasis in ethnomusicology from the University of Iowa, a Masters in Percussion Performance from Truman State, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Appalachian State. McKenna has performed extensively across the United States, Thailand, and Italy as a soloist, chamber, and ensemble musician and is an advocate for collaborations of new music with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion. She is a Vic Firth and Zildjian Educational Artist and a member of the Network for Diversity in Concert Percussion. In her free time, you can find McKenna adventuring around with her 3-legged husky named Soca.
Legend High School in Parker, Colorado opened its doors to students in 2008. The Legend Titan Marching Band had its first competitive season in 2009 in division 3A and moved up to 4A in 2010 and 5A in 2011 as the school grew and added additional grade levels. The band marched in the Colorado State Fair Parade in years 2009 -2014, winning the Sweepstakes award in 2011 and 1st place in 5A in 2013 and 2014. The band marched in the Littleton Western Welcome Week parade in years 2015, 2018, and 2019, winning 1st place in each appearance. The Legend Band has placed in semifinals or as a state finalist every year since the band began competing. In 2017, Legend had its highest finish ever at the state championships with a 3rd place finish and followed up that performance by competing in BOA Grand Nationals.
The band has traveled to San Diego, CA for the BGA Holiday Bowl parade (2009), Disneyland (2010), Hawaii (2011), Jacksonville, FL for the Gator Bowl parade and halftime show (2013), BOA St. Louis Super Regional (2014), and London for the New Year’s Day parade (2016).
