Marching Band
Marching band is a 1st semester class that meets from mid July – late October. From November to the end of the semester the ensemble continues in a Symphonic ensemble setting and prepares for several winter concerts. Marching Band is one of the elite performance ensembles at Legend HS/thus attendance at all camps, rehearsals, performances and competitions are a requirement for membership. Members of this ensemble will work to master the art form of “music in motion”, otherwise known as marching band. The ensemble will perform quality music and perform visually, both at the highest level. Student/Parent/Family time management for this activity is very important. It may not always be easy, but it will be worth it! There are no audition requirements to be a part of this music ensemble, only a desire to be a part of an ensemble that flourishes off the “team concept.”
All students (Winds – Percussion – Color Guard) must be able to meet basic music and physical standards and be enrolled in band both semesters (with the exception of Color Guard members who will enroll in Color Guard Techniques 2nd semester).
The percussion and color guard sections meet for a week long camp during the summer before the full band camp for everyone begins. The full Band meets in the summer for a 2 week band camp and also practices on Tuesday and Thursday regularly from 3:15pm – 5:45pm in the fall until mid – October. The percussion and color guard practice one additional day on Wednesday – weekly during this time. There are occasional Saturday rehearsals and most events are on Saturdays as well. Students must be able to meet the summer and after school rehearsal attendance requirements for membership. Student’s grades in the class are determined by (1) attendance and (2) continued musical and/or performance growth.
Community Parades, Home Football and Playoff Games, CBA and other local/regional Field Show Competitions, travel to regional and national events will be a part of the ensemble’s regular schedule.
ALL Camps, Practices, Concerts and Performances are required for participation in this group!
Note to parents: If your son or daughter is enrolled in the Marching Band it is very important to understand that this means we think you are going to do this activity until the season has completed. Many resources of time/energy and money have been put into place to help ensure a positive and memorable experience for each student. If a student changes their mind in mid stream and decides not to follow through, it changes many components significantly: Uniforms / equipment / staff and most importantly the field show. When we change the field show because a student has changed their mind, it costs the band money, and affects every other student in the program. So if you or your student(s) aren’t sure please consider the ramifications of “yes” then “no”!
